Carbon Teflon PTFE Sheet (sheets) and Rod (bars) are filled with other materials such as graphite, bronze, glass and carbon. Each has its own advantages: "Graphite filled PTFE" exceptional chemical resistance and compatible with most hydraulic fluids. Outstanding performance when used for hydraulic / pneumatic compression type rods and piston seals, bearing bands and rotary applications. Low coefficient of friction compared to other PTFE filled materials. Flexural modulus and surface higher than modified PTFE hardness. "Bronze filled PTFE" This filler has better clothing, elongation resistance, and higher thermal conductivity than glass fibers with PTFE. This compound is easily machined, but has poor chemical resistance in the presence of acids and alkalis. Useful in applications that experience high mechanical loads or high speed rubbing contacts where bronze fillers supply strength and conductivity to transport excess, unwanted heat. "Carbon filled PTFE" percentage of different fillers will change properties. Two basic ingredients used in this compound, by themselves, are highly questionable. PTFE has good friction properties including low wear rates and good elasticity. The carbon filler is brittle and has low wear properties. Both fail at high loads and increase speed. When the two elements are formulated and properly mixed together, they become an excellent material for use as seals and rings in the reciprocating compressor industry. The properties increase a few hundred times. Wear resistance changes dramatically compared to virgin PTFE. The type and percentage of carbon is very important for material performance. For optimal wearing properties, the percentage of fillers is also important. Lower percentages are easier for machines but don't perform well in service. "PTFE filled glass" Glass fiber has the least effect on chemical and electrical properties and adds greatly to the mechanical properties of PTFE filled. Besides glass it increases compressive properties by as much as 40% and increases wear resistance greatly. This compound resists acid and oxidation but can be attacked by alkalis. It is heat resistant and has better mechanical properties than standard PTFE.
